Watch Appraisal

A watch appraisal for insurance purposes can be carried out under the following conditions:

  • the watch must have been purchased in your name from an official dealer, and
  • the set must be complete (box, papers, certificate, and accessories).

In this case, we provide a written appraisal report stating the true market value.
The fee for an official written appraisal is €390.

Please note that the value we officially determine is based on the actual market value, which is often lower than the prices you see online.
Websites such as Chrono24 often display inaccurate or misleading prices. Some watches are counterfeit, while others have been altered with non-original parts or dials. Certain pieces are falsely advertised as 100% original, even though they never left the factory in that configuration.
In addition, there are fake listings or multiple postings of the same watch. Finally, the most expensive watches often remain unsold for years, and each sale is subject to an additional 6% transaction fee.

Our specialists see through these market distortions and provide only the accurate, realistic value of your watch.

For a standard written appraisal (for example, for an inheritance or a personal valuation), we determine the amount we would actually pay you in the event of a potential purchase.
This amount is lower than the market value, since as a dealer we must later resell the watch at the market price.
The appraisal is valid on the date of issue and does not entitle you to payment if the value increases or decreases thereafter.
If you subsequently decide to sell the watch to us, the appraisal fee will be fully refunded.
However, if the appraisal is simply a price inquiry, it is completely free of charge.

At Edelmetaal Richard, you can rely on transparency, expertise, and an honest assessment of your watch’s true value.

Appraisal of jewels

Would you like to know the true value of your jewelry?

At Edelmetaal Richard, every piece is appraised with utmost care and precision. Since 1956, we have been recognized as one of Belgium’s most experienced experts in gold, gemstones, and luxury brands.

Our specialists evaluate not only the weight and purity of your gold, but also the quality of the diamonds and the overall condition of the jewelry.

For exclusive brands such as Cartier, Chopard, Bulgari, Tiffany & Co., Van Cleef & Arpels, and others, we often offer higher valuations, especially when the jewelry comes in its original box with certificate and remains in excellent condition.

Global appraisals are always free

A general appraisal is always completely free when you consider selling your jewellery to us.
Even if you decide not to sell, the appraisal remains entirely free of charge.
You’ll receive an immediate, no-obligation valuation based on the current market price and our many years of expertise.

Paid appraisal for official purposes

For official purposes — such as insurance, inheritance, or notarial appraisals — a paid valuation is carried out.
You will receive a written certificate specifying the materials, weight, any gemstones, and the estimated value of each item.

If you later decide to sell the jewellery to us, the appraisal fee will be fully deducted.

Please note: the value may differ at the time of a later sale due to gold price fluctuations. Therefore, our report does not represent a binding purchase price.

At Edelmetaal Richard, you choose discretion, craftsmanship, and a fair valuation of every piece — from timeless heirlooms to modern designer creations.

Appraisal of coins

Would you like to have your coins appraised?

At Edelmetaal Richard, we do this with nearly 70 years of expertise and experience.

In addition to the market value, the condition and rarity of each coin play a crucial role in determining its worth.

Appraisals are directly linked to the current bullion value and the overall state of the coin.
If a coin is damaged or polished, it will only be valued at its metal weight in gold or silver.

However, for rare or sought-after pieces, we actively search the market for the best possible buyer and price, ensuring you receive the most favorable offer.

We appraise both gold and silver coins for private clients, notaries handling inheritances, and insurance purposes.
When a written valuation report is required, the appraisal becomes paid, depending on the number of coins — typically between €190 and €390.

Our expertise ranges from investment coins and commemorative medals to rare collector’s pieces, in both gold and silver.
We do not appraise copper or nickel coins (such as 1- or 2-euro coins).

When you sell directly to us the coins listed in the appraisal reports we have prepared, the appraisal is of course completely free of charge.
The amounts stated in these reports may differ from the current market price and are therefore not binding.
All other appraisals carried out verbally or without a written report are also entirely free — whether you decide to sell or not.

At Edelmetaal Richard, you can count on trust, precision, and seven decades of experience in the precious metals trade.
